Getting Started

  1. Directions:

    Follow the steps below to get started.

  2. Preparing Your PowerPoint File:

    1. The following instructions give you the capability to download a self-extracting E-Portfolio file from the Internet.

    2. Your instructor will give you the needed password.

    3. You will need to have a blank media zip disk, USB drive (memory stick) or CD-RW disk in your computer.

    4. Your media will have to be at least 64 megabytes to accommodate your work.  The larger the media the better.

    5. Insert the media into your computer.

    6. To put the files you need on your media:

    1. You need to select the style for your E-Portfolio from the thumbnails shown below.

    2. Click on any picture to enlarge it for better viewing.

    3. From the 5 pictures shown below, select a style that you prefer and click its download link.

    4. Select the "Open" or "Run" option (depending on your computer).

    5. In the box where it says "Unzip to folder", select the drive where your media is located (Usually drive “D” although it can be “E”, “F” or “G”, etc).

    6. Now click the unzip button.

    7. Enter the password your teacher gave you.

  1. To start work on your E-Portfolio

    1. Double click on “My Computer”.

    2. Double click on the media you are using (Usually drive “D” although it can be  “E”, “F” or “G”, etc).

    3. Double click on the file name “E-Portfolio-<Your Color>.ppt”.

    4. Click on "File → Save As…”.

    5. Save the PowerPoint file under a new name called “E-Portfolio2-<Your Color>.ppt”.

  1. Taking Your Picture

    1. For class 2, come prepared to have your photo taken.  Wear business apparel.

    2. While the other class members are working on filling in their E-Portfolio items, we will ask you to have your picture taken.  You can retake your picture at a later date if you wish, or you may supply your own picture.

    3. Stand in front of the white projection screen in the “Student PC Area”.

    4. Give your complete name to the assistant on duty.

    5. The assistant will take your picture and later put it on your zip disk.

    6. Picture taking tips:

      1. Make sure that there are no wrinkles in your apparel.

      2. Make sure that your tie is tied correctly, and it is straight.

      3. Stand straight.

      4. Do not look directly into the camera.

      5. Make sure that the photo does not cut anything off, such as showing only half of your tie or necklace.
